About the Old Gordonian's Association - 'Semper Fidelis'

The Old Gordonian's Association is the official body that caters to the information requirements of former pupils of The Gordon Boys Home, The Gordon Boys School and Gordon's School. The association has an office at the school which is staffed part time by the National Secretary, Mrs Carol Willgoss. The committeee meets 3 times a year and there is an Annual General Meeting held on Old Gordonian's Day every June.

It is named for Major-General Charles George Gordon, CB (28 January 1833 – 26 January 1885), sometimes referred to as Chinese Gordon, Gordon Pasha, and Gordon of Khartoum, an outstanding British army officer who is remembered for his exceptional achievements in China during the Taiping Rebellion of the 1860's and later in 1884 when he accepted the position of Governor General of The Sudan in northern Africa. He died there on January 26th 1885 during The Mahdist Revolt.

It is said the he was Queen Victoria's favourite General and it was at her insistence that a public appeal was raised that resulted in the founding of The Gordon Boys Home in July 1885. It carried this name from 1885 until 1943 when it became The Gordon Boys School. It is now known as Gordon's School and enjoys a justified and enviable position as one of the top schools in the country. It still carries on with many of the military traditions of its past.
